AWAFI MILL Gond Mochras, also known as Mochrus, Shalmali Gond, Semul Gum, Silk Cotton Tree Gum and Mochirasa, is a naturally dried botanical gum associated with the Silk Cotton Tree, Bombax ceiba.

The gum occurs as irregular, opaque tears or knot-like pieces with a deeply wrinkled surface. The exterior may range from dark ruby-red to blackish-brown, while thinner areas can show reddish-amber tones when viewed against light. The dried pieces are firm and brittle and may be broken or crushed into powder.

Gond Mochras has a mild woody sensory profile with a naturally dry and astringent character. Natural variation in colour, shape, surface texture, size and translucency may occur from piece to piece.

Traditionally, Mochras gum has been soaked in water to soften and swell the dried material before being incorporated into regional food and beverage preparations such as traditional drinks, sherbet-style preparations and ladoo recipes.
