100% Pure Natural Mastiha Chios Gum Mastic Tears 20grams

Mastic a fragrant resin from the Pistacia lentiscus tree, which grows in the Mediterranean countries, used for varnishes, inks, in medicine, etc. The main producer is the island of Chios.

Mastic has been used as a medicine since ancient times and is still used in traditional folk medicine in the Middle East. In ancient Greece it was used as an antidote for snake bites, and in India and Persia it was used to fill cavities in teeth. Hippocrates wrote that mastic helped ward off indigestion and colds, and Galen mentioned that mastic helped with bronchitis and improved the condition of the blood. In everyday life, mastic was highly valued in sultan harems as a breath freshener and teeth whitener.

Mastic contains antioxidants and also has antibacterial and antifungal properties. A University of Nottingham study published in the New England Journal of Medicine claims that mastic can heal ulcers by killing the Helicobacter pylori bacteria. Other studies have shown that mastic has a relatively weak ability to eliminate H. pylori, but also mention that processing mastic by removing the poly-β-myrcene polymer can enhance and improve the effect of the active components, particularly isomasticodienolic acid. Mastic can have an impact in preventing tooth inflammation and gingivitis, as chewing it reduces the level of bacteria in the mouth.
